Armenia
Colombia Helena Natural is a light-roast, natural-process coffee from Armenia, Colombia, cupping with mandarin, molasses, and watermelon. That combination — bright citrus against a syrupy, almost caramelized sweetness — is unusual for Colombian coffee, which is far more often washed and built around a cleaner, nuttier profile like our Colombia by DABOV.
We selected this lot specifically because it isn't typical Colombian coffee. Natural (dry) processing dries the whole cherry around the bean instead of pulping the fruit away first, and that extended fruit contact pushes the cup toward the fruitier, sweeter register natural-processed coffees are known for — closer in character to a natural Ethiopian or Brazilian lot than to Colombia's usual washed profile. A light roast keeps that fruit character intact rather than letting a darker roast caramelize it away.
Grown at 1,400-1,450 meters in Armenia, in the heart of Colombia's coffee-growing Quindío department, this lot is a Caturra — a compact, high-quality mutation of the Bourbon variety that's been a workhorse cultivar across Latin America for nearly a century.
If you've found Colombian coffee reliably pleasant but a little predictable, this is the exception: brighter, sweeter, and more layered than the country's washed norm. It's part of our Bright & Fruity collection.
