Kenya Ichamama is a washed SL28 grown at 1,700–2,000 meters in Nyeri, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, cupping with honey, forest fruits, and blackberry in a medium-light roast. If you want to understand why coffee professionals treat Nyeri as one of the world's great origins, this is the kind of lot to start with: a classic variety, the classic Kenyan washed process, serious elevation, and nothing standing between you and the fruit.

The lot is produced by Othaya Coffee and handled the traditional Kenyan way — fermented, washed with clean water, and dried slowly on raised beds. Washed processing removes the cherry before drying, so everything in the cup is what the seed itself developed on the tree. With growing conditions this good, that restraint pays off: berry and honey character with unusual definition, carried by the vibrant, juicy acidity Kenyan coffee beans are famous for, and a finish that stays clean to the last sip.

We carry three lots from Othaya, and Ichamama is the classic of the trio — brighter and more traditional than the chocolate-and-cream profile of Kenya Mutungati, and deliberately more conventional than the experimentally processed Kenya Githiru. To taste how much range one producer can pull from a single variety, all three come together in the Kenya Collection Coffee Box.
