Ethiopia Shantawene is a single-origin coffee grown in the Bensa growing district of Ethiopia's Sidama zone, the same broad area behind DABOV's Ethiopia Bombe Alo lot. Sidama is one of only a handful of Ethiopian regions with legal geographical-indication protection for its name, alongside Yirgacheffe and Harrar — recognition built on generations of smallholder farming across this stretch of the southern highlands.
Bensa itself sits at serious altitude even by Ethiopian standards, and Sidama's coffee sector runs on a cooperative model: thousands of small family farms deliver cherry to shared washing and drying sites, which is how individually tiny harvests become traceable, single-site export lots like this one.
Coffees from this part of Sidama are grown almost entirely from JARC-developed local varieties bred for both disease resistance and cup quality — a combination that's made this district a consistent source of clean, expressive Ethiopian coffee. This lot carries that reputation forward under its own site name rather than a broader regional label, letting a specific corner of Bensa speak for itself.
