Bensa
Ethiopia Bombe Alo is a light-roast, natural-processed single origin from the Bensa district of Ethiopia's Sidama zone, cupping with blueberry, orange blossom, and sweet candy sweetness. It's a classic expression of what makes natural-processed Ethiopian coffee distinct: layered fruit and floral character built up during an extended, whole-cherry drying process rather than stripped away by washing.
We selected this lot from Bensa specifically for that natural processing — cherries are picked ripe and dried intact, letting sugar and fruit compounds migrate from the fruit into the bean over the weeks it takes to dry. That's the mechanism behind the blueberry note here, and it's also why the cup carries a bright, almost lemonade-like acidity alongside its floral orange-blossom top note. A light roast preserves all of it; anything darker would trade this lot's aromatics for roast char.
Grown at 2,080-2,280 meters, high even by Ethiopian standards, this is a 74158 varietal lot — a Jimma Agricultural Research Center selection bred for its resilience at altitude and its clean, expressive cup, now a mainstay across Sidama's growing districts.
If you already know Ethiopian coffee for its fruit and floral character, this is a well-balanced expression of it: brighter and more elegant than a heavier natural lot, sweet enough to drink black. It's part of our Bright & Fruity collection, alongside our Ethiopia by DABOV heirloom lot.
