Why did we choose it?

This coffee represents the dedication and passion of farmer Justin Musabimana and the Mahembe project. Returning to his homeland, Justin built a wet mill and partnered with local smallholders, ensuring sustainable practices and fair compensation. The exceptional terroir of Karonge, Rwanda – with volcanic soil and high altitudes – makes this microlot a shining example of Rwanda’s coffee excellence. Personally selected by our coffee hunter Jordan Dabov, this coffee delivers a rare and memorable taste experience.

The taste

Specialty Rwanda Mahembe BOR #16 delights with caramel sweetness, juicy blackcurrant, and blueberry notes, rounded out by a clean, fruity aftertaste and elegant balance. Its medium-to-full body makes every sip satisfying and refined.

Best brew?

We recommend brewing this coffee as a filter (V60, Chemex) to highlight its fruity brightness, or in a French Press for a rounder, fuller mouthfeel. Light roasting preserves the coffee’s unique terroir-driven complexity and fresh fruit character.

Where does it come from?

Mahembe farm is located at 1700–2000 meters above sea level in the Karonge region of Rwanda, an area celebrated for its fertile volcanic soil and ideal climate for coffee cultivation. Justin’s wet mill ensures meticulous processing, delivering clean and expressive flavors that have earned international recognition, including 16th place at Best of Rwanda 2024.
