Ethiopia COE #20 2024 is a Cup of Excellence competition lot from Ethiopia's 2024 harvest — a natural-processed Sidama coffee grown by Leikun Zegeye Dagnachew, ranked twentieth nationally with a score of 87.46, cupping with jasmine, apricot, and black cherry. Leikun is a young producer: he bought a five-hectare plot of already-planted heirloom 74158 trees near his home in 2019, at age 24, and has entered Cup of Excellence more than once since — placing first in 2020, and landing at rank twenty in the 2024 edition this lot comes from.

A rank-20 result in a competition this deep is still a genuine achievement: Ethiopia's 2024 Cup of Excellence drew hundreds of samples nationwide, and only a small fraction of coffees cleared the 87-point threshold required to advance from the national jury to the international one, where a second panel of Q graders and buyers confirms the score before the winning lots go to auction. This lot cleared that bar by a comfortable margin.

We carry it as part of our rotating Competition Series, alongside a different Sidama lot from the very same 2024 competition, Ethiopia COE #3, which placed considerably higher in the same year's ranking.
