What Is Yellow Tea?

Yellow tea is one of the rarest of the major Camellia sinensis tea styles — processed similarly to green tea but with one additional step, called "men huang" or sealed yellowing, that mellows the leaf and shifts its color toward pale yellow-green. DelmarTe's version is a whole-leaf Chinese offering with a smooth, mellow character and a delicate sweetness, noticeably softer than the grassy brightness typical of green tea.

The name describes a real, distinct tea category recognized alongside green, white, oolong, black, and pu-erh — not a marketing term for a flavored green tea. What sets this style apart is the men huang step covered in more detail below: a slow, controlled resting period that few producers still practice, which is a large part of why it remains one of the least common styles on the market today, even compared to other whole-leaf specialty teas.

This is part of DABOV's Private Reserve selection within the premium tea range, alongside other rare whole-leaf Chinese teas such as Milk Oolong and Jasmine White Dragon Pearls.
