Nakuru County
Kenya Mutungati is a washed SL28 from Nakuru County, grown at 1,500–1,700 meters and roasted medium, cupping with milk chocolate, ice cream, and blackcurrant. It is the answer to a question a lot of drinkers ask quietly: can I have Kenya's fruit without the full-volume acidity? Here the classic blackcurrant signature is still present, but it sits on a base of creamy chocolate sweetness and velvety texture rather than leading the charge.
That softer balance starts in the field. Nakuru County lies in Kenya's Rift Valley, with the fertile volcanic soils and cool climate serious Arabica needs, and the lot is produced by Othaya Coffee from SL28 — the same celebrated variety behind our brighter Kenya Ichamama. A medium roast then develops the deeper sugars that a lighter Kenyan roast intentionally leaves on the table.
The result is the most versatile coffee in our Kenyan lineup: rounded enough for espresso and milk drinks, expressive enough for filter, and an ideal first Kenyan for anyone who usually drinks Latin American profiles. You can compare it directly against its two siblings in the Kenya Collection Coffee Box, or explore more coffees in this register in our Rich & Chocolatey collection.
