Nicaragua Los Placeres is a medium-roast, washed Ethiosar grown at 1,000 meters on the Mierisch family's Los Placeres farm in Matagalpa, cupping with chocolate, brown sugar, and roasted hazelnut. Ethiosar is an uncommon variety even by specialty-coffee standards, and this lot's lower elevation than most of DABOV's single origins is part of what gives it its dense, chocolatey weight rather than the brighter, more acidic profile higher-grown lots tend toward.

The Mierisch family has farmed coffee in Nicaragua for generations, and Los Placeres is one of several farms across their Matagalpa and Jinotega holdings. This particular farm and variety pairing matters beyond the cup, too — Ethiosar itself was developed by the Mierisch family working alongside a relative farming at even lower altitude, specifically to solve the problem of growing good coffee where elevation alone can't carry the flavor.

Washed processing keeps that chocolate-brown-sugar-hazelnut profile clean and precise rather than layering in extra fruit character, making this a straightforward, comforting cup rather than a complex or challenging one. It's a good match for drinkers who prefer Nicaragua's classic cocoa-and-nut register over the brighter, more floral profiles some of the country's higher-grown lots show — including Nicaragua Mierish, another release from the same family. Los Placeres sits in our Rich & Chocolatey collection.
